Hurricane Frances
Hurricane Frances charged into Florida’s east coast early Sunday, September 5, 2004 with winds of 115 m.p.h. and more than 13 inches of rain, ripping of roofs, smashing boats and flooding West Palm Beach streets with up to four feet of water. The large, slow-moving system exited into the Gulf of Mexico about 24 hours later, then made its second Florida landfall at tiny St. Marks, 20 miles south of Tallahassee, at about 2 p.m. on September 6. At least 10 deaths were blamed on the storm in Florida and Georgia, and about 6 million Florida customers lost power.
Total damage data is not yet avaialble.
